How this works

The dispatcher gives us verbal instructions, which we must copy word for word.

Abbreviations can be used to save space

W for West, E for East, B for Both directions

Mileposts (exact to the 10th of a mile) are given.  When at a switch, the clearance point is where the location begins.

EC-1 number is given by dispatcher

In many trips, more than 1 EC-1 will be given.

Road Crossings

Failure is gates or lights not working, and road must be flagged.

False/Partial means they may be malfunctioning, and if found to be not working, we must stop and flag, but if all seems ok, we can go 15 mph (head end only)

A dispatcher can annul the order, if restriction is lifted before crew enters restriction.
